Synta Study Finds 60% of B2B Brands Were Never Explicitly Recommended by AI

New 750-answer benchmark measures the gap between web retrieval and AI-generated buyer shortlists across five China-export industries.

BEIJING — August 14, 2026 —

Synta, the AI visibility and Generative Engine Optimization practice of Beijing Xintaiyuan Technology Co., Ltd., today published the 2026 B2B Brand AI Search Visibility Benchmark. The study covers 50 brands across life sciences services, nutraceuticals, industrial robotics, battery energy storage and cross-border ecommerce logistics.

The research used Perplexity Sonar, Qwen 3.7 Flash and DeepSeek V4 Flash to produce 750 standardized answers in an English-language, US B2B procurement context. Each of 250 prompt instances used a shared web evidence pack across the three model families, reducing source-set variation and making platform behavior easier to compare.

Retrieval did not guarantee recommendation

Thirty of the 50 brands received no explicit recommendation in any unbranded opportunity. Among 33 brands whose official domains appeared in the study's retrieval evidence packs, 22 still received zero explicit recommendations. This 66.7% gap suggests that simple discoverability does not automatically translate into AI shortlist inclusion.

International benchmark brands averaged 55.33 on the study's 100-point visibility score, compared with 41.67 for China-origin brands. The underlying unrounded gap was 13.67 points. Energy storage recorded the highest explicit recommendation rate at 17%, followed by industrial robotics at 14%. Nutraceuticals recorded the lowest rate at 3%.

“The commercial question is no longer only whether an AI system can find a brand. It is whether the system has enough comparable, verifiable evidence to recommend that brand when a buyer asks for a shortlist.”

Evidence quality is becoming a commercial asset

The final dataset contains 3,032 parsed citation instances across 313 unique domains. The study indicates that company-owned pages matter, but independent trade, media, research and regulatory evidence often supplies the comparative context needed for a recommendation.

Synta recommends that export-oriented B2B companies prioritize procurement-ready facts: product and service scope, certifications, delivery footprint, support boundaries, verified customer outcomes and direct comparisons with realistic alternatives. These facts should be consistently expressed on the official site and corroborated by credible third-party sources.

Transparent and auditable research

All 750 planned answers completed with at least one parsed citation. Synta also conducted a stratified semantic audit of 150 answers and 4,500 classification fields, achieving 91.8% agreement with the automated classification. The public package includes the English executive report, 50-brand diagnostic appendix, ranking attachment and complete methodology.

The benchmark measures machine-visible evidence and AI recommendation behavior during a defined execution window. It is not a product-quality assessment, procurement endorsement, market-share ranking or claim that standardized API results are identical to consumer chat applications.
